Plus Pack wins Global Goals prize!
We are proud to have won the Odense Global Goals Award 2019 (Odense Verdensmålspris). The award is given by the Odense Sustainability Committee to companies or people who work with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Out of 60 candidates who applied for the competition, 12 were nominated for the four awards handed out (The Global Goals Award, The Youth Award, The Everyday Activist, The Climate Award). Plus Pack was nominated for the top prize, The Global Goals Award, together with two other nominees.
With this award, we are acknowledged for our strategic and systematic work with sustainability and the integration of the SDG’s into our activities in the packaging industry. At Plus Pack, our focus is on the Global Goal no. 12 – Responsible production and consumption. This goal helps us stay focused on designing, developing and producing sustainable packaging that supports a circular economy. It is important for us to produce food packaging that uses resources optimally and reduces food waste. We work with the principles prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse when we design new packaging.
Camilla Haustrup Hermansen, Director of Business Development at Plus Pack, says: “At Plus Pack, the SDG’s frame our work with sustainability with regards to future business opportunities in many ways. Innovation and sustainability are strategic focus areas for us”. Upon receiving the award at the ceremony, she told the audience the importance it holds for Plus Pack: “Receiving this award is a recognition of our efforts and as Plus Pack we are very thankful for it”.
The awards were handed out to the winners at a ceremony at the City Hall of Odense on the 29th of August. All twelve nominees presented their initiatives for the audience, before the winners of the four awards were revealed by mayor Peter Rahbæk Juel, who is also chairman of the Odense Sustainability Committee.
The mayor expressed his contentment with the massive interest for the competition, which demonstrates that Odense is a city that prioritises the SDG’s and works for realising them in many ways. “It shows us that many different actors from Odense already apply the SDG’s to their work, which makes me very happy on behalf of the city”, said mayor Peter Rahbæk Juel and continued “(…) electing the 12 nominees was in fact a tough mission, since they are comprised of a broad spectrum of qualified candidates”.
